General Information
Brighton's first subdivision is known as "Home Acres". The Southern Parkway/Eastland/Westland neighborhood has its origin in one of the town's earliest families, the Cobbs (i.e. Cobb's Hill). Gideon Cobb arrived from Vermont shortly before the war of 1812. He prospered as a farmer and a brick maker. In 1871, his son William sold almost 129 acres of land to George Ellwanger and Patrick Barry. The land become part of the cultivated "Ellwanger and Barry" Mount Hope Nursery and was for many years the largest horticultural establishment in the world. Read more about Home Acres' history here.
The Home Acres Association dues are $15.00 per year, per family or household. The directory is distributed only to dues paying members. Corrections and additions to the directory should be directed to the Board of Directors.

Fall leaf pickup begins after October 1st on an unscheduled basis. Pile leaves between the sidewalk and the street--do not leave them in the street. Grass clippings are no longer picked up by the town. Your cooperation is appreciated. Also, no plastic bags should be used for yard debris. See Town of Brighton Leaf & Yard Debris Pickup
Home Acres E-Mail Distribution
Home Acres maintains an e-mail list for distributing time-sensitive messages (meeting notices, lost pets, security alerts, etc.). Only messages relating to Home Acres will be posted. Messages must fall into the following categories:
- Informational messages (either requesting or offering information related to Home Acres)
- Items or help wanted
- Items or help offered
The e-mail distribution is monitored to conform to these categories. We do not want the e-mail list to be used for unwanted messages (spam), messages that only express an opinion, or that advertise services or businesses that do not directly relate to Home Acres.
To be included on the e-mail list or to send messages for distribution, contact Dan Blasdell at email@homeacres.org
